{"id":483,"date":"2021-02-19T19:39:00","date_gmt":"2021-02-19T19:39:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.akron.duonglam.ca\/?page_id=483"},"modified":"2023-11-06T15:52:40","modified_gmt":"2023-11-06T15:52:40","slug":"vaccination","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.akron.duonglam.ca\/?page_id=483","title":{"rendered":"Vaccination"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Prevnar 20<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>For adults who have not been previously vaccinated with a pneumococcal vaccine, NACI recommends that a single dose of Prevnar<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>20 should be offered to:<ul><li>Adults 65 years of age and over<\/li><li>Adults 50 to 64 years of age living with factors that place them at higher risk of pneumococcal disease<\/li><li>Adults 18 to 49 years of age with immunocompromising conditions<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>As a discretionary recommendation, NACI recommends:<ul><li>A single dose of Vaxneuvance<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>\u00a0followed by a single dose of Pneumovax<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>23 may be offered as an alternative to Prevnar<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>20<\/li><li>For adults 18-49 years of age with non-immunocompromising risk factors, Prevnar<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>20 and Vaxneuvance<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>\u00a0may be considered at clinical discretion.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>For adults who have previously received a pneumococcal vaccine, NACI recommends that a single dose of Prevnar<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>20:<ul><li>Should be offered to adults 65 years of age and over who have received Pneumovax<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>23 alone or both Prevnar<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>13 and Pneumovax<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>23, if it has been at least 5 years since the last dose of a pneumococcal vaccine.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>As a discretionary recommendation, NACI recommends that a single dose of Prevnar<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>20:<ul><li>May be offered to adults 65 years of age and over who have received Prevnar<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>13 alone, if it has been 1 year since the last dose of Prevnar<sup>\u00ae<\/sup>13<\/li><li>For adults who have received a hematopoietic stem cell transplant (HSCT), see the full statement (linked below) for additional recommendations.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Pneumococcal Vaccine (Pneumovax 23) *covered +65<br><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Indication&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>&nbsp;&gt;65 yrs old<\/li><li>&gt; 2 yrs old with following conditions;<ul><li>chronic heart, kidney or lung disease (except asthma);<\/li><li>nephrotic syndrome;<\/li><li>chronic liver disease, including cirrhosis of the liver;<\/li><li>alcoholism;<\/li><li>diabetes mellitus;<\/li><li>chronic cerebral spinal fluid leak;<\/li><li>HIV;<\/li><li>other diseases or therapy that suppress the immune system;<\/li><li>no spleen or a spleen that does not work properly;<\/li><li>sickle cell disease;<\/li><li>solid organ or islet cell transplant;<\/li><li>cochlear implants;<\/li><li>neurologic conditions that may impair clearance of oral secretions;<\/li><li>stem cell transplant (HSCT) and;<\/li><li>residents of nursing homes, homes for the aged and chronic care facilities or wards.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Prevnar 13 *covered for high risk<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Prevnar 13 (13 strains vs 23 strains); usually only given to children.&nbsp; If you didn&#8217;t receive as a child, get Prevnar 13 then Pneumovax 23 one year later.&nbsp; Not a covered vaccine by ODB.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In some cases, the CDC recommends that adults get Prevnar 13 in addition to Pneumovax 23.
