Process for Handling OACD
- Oral anticancer drugs are stored on a designated area , separate from nonhazardous drugs, and labelled as such.
- Dedicated preparation equipment (i.e., counting trays) should be used to count oral anticancer drugs
- Dispense them in original packaging if tablets are in individual unit dosing
- Count and repackage tablets/capsules in a manner that avoids skin contact, as well as minimizes aerosolization and cross-contamination of other drugs
- Label oral anticancer drugs as “do not cut or crush.”
- The batch/lot number, along with expiry date should be documented on the hardcopy
- Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) should be available and worn wherever oral anticancer drugs are handled
