Please review the below link on safe handling of oral anti-cancer medications.

For a list of OACD, please follow the link https://www.cdc.gov/niosh/docs/2016-161/

Process for Handling OACD

  • Oral anticancer drugs are stored on a designated area , separate from nonhazardous drugs, and labelled as such.
  • Dedicated preparation equipment (i.e., counting trays) should be used to count oral anticancer drugs
  • Dispense them in original packaging if tablets are in individual unit dosing
  • Count and repackage tablets/capsules in a manner that avoids skin contact, as well as minimizes aerosolization and cross-contamination of other drugs
  • Label oral anticancer drugs as “do not cut or crush.”
  • The batch/lot number, along with expiry date should be documented on the hardcopy
  • Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) should be available and worn wherever oral anticancer drugs are handled
